The John Radcliffe Hospital Haematology Department, Oxford, has agreed to head a small patient trial to test Dr Carmen Wheatley's hypothesis detailed below, which will test vitamin B12 in the treatment of MGUS, the pre-cancer stage, from which 1 out of 4 patients can be expected to progress to Multiple Myeloma, or other related conditions, such as Waldenstrom's, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Macroglobulinaemia, Myelofibrosis, Polycythaemia/Vera/Rubra, Essential Thrombocythaemia, and certain lymphomas, such as Lymphocytic Lymphoma.
Orthomolecular Oncology (Survive Cancer) and the John Radcliffe are currently finalising the protocol for the MGUS trial and costing it. The charity is in the process of fundraising for the trial, and as soon as the money is in place we hope to go ahead. We will post the final protocol, and a list of all the hospitals participating in the study as soon as these are available, so that anyone wishing to take part will be able to contact the hospital nearest to them.
Depending on the results of this patient trial to test vitamin B12 in the treatment of MGUS, the charity plans to do a follow-up trial to test vitamin B12 in the treatment of Multiple Myeloma.
Orthomolecular Oncology (Survive Cancer) regrets that, until further notice, it does not at present have the resources to deal with general, individual patient correspondence and queries. If this situation changes we will let you know. In the meantime, we would suggest all such queries are directed to one of the doctors you will find listed in our on-site directory of orthomolecular doctors. Any cancer patient seriously interested in following our approaches, should, anyway, be under the guidance of such doctors.

MULTIPLE MYELOMA QUESTIONNAIREDo you have multiple myeloma? If so you can help us to understand more about this cancer by filling in our questionnaire, which we hope will be able to assist research into this mysterious form of cancer. The questionnaire is also a preliminary to participation in a relatively simple orthomolecular trial, for MGUS, Myeloma and related conditions, planned to start in Summer 2002. DONATIONSOrthomolecular Oncology is a UK registered charity, no. 1078066. Orthomolecular Oncology's aim is to empower cancer patients, educate and inform patients and their physicians of the varied treatments available for cancer treatment throughout the world, and thereby influence cancer survival rates in Europe and elsewhere. To this end we want to publish the Beating the Odds guide and distribute it internationally, so that it will be available free of charge in all doctors' surgeries and cancer units, in several major languages. Orthomolecular Oncology is planning to make a film and video, demonstrating the more integrated approach to cancer treatment in a North American clinical setting, aimed at both oncologists and patients, which will be marketed in French, German, Spanish and Japanese, as well as English. If successful, this video may be the first in a series on more integrated approaches to cancer. Orthomolecular Oncology will also endeavour to set in motion an ongoing European programme of seminars and conferences on adjuvant nutrition in cancer, to equal that currently extant in the States and Canada, which now dates back over 25 years. In the long term, Orthomolecular Oncology would like to help establish a Chair of Orthomolecular Medicine at a major British or European University. If you would like to help the work of this Charity, your donation would be a valuable help towards achieving these aims. We hope shortly to set up an on-line donation facility, but until then please contact Orthomolecular Oncology by email: canceraction@cwgsy.net, or write or send your donation to: Orthomolecular Oncology, Contributions of £250 and above may qualify for the Inland Revenue Gift Aid Scheme, which would enable Orthomolecular Oncology to recover an additional sum. Since April 2000, all donations made by UK taxpayers, no matter how small, will get tax relief under the Gift Aid Scheme. |
